Why do we heal?

February 11, 2009

In John 9 1-4 Jesus meets a man blind from birth. His disciples ask Him why the man is blind and Jesus’ answer is a bit shocking.

It was not that this man sinned, nor his parents, but that the works of God may be displayed in him.

So we heal people so that the works of God may be displayed and God given Glory through it. So don’t keep it quiet when God’s works are displayed!

Jesus goes on to say that ‘We must works the works of Him who sent Me (Jesus) while it is still day’ We – plural – so us!

We heal in the mighty name of Jesus and His Father gets the Glory.

Who can heal?

Exodus 31 1-3. God chooses Bezalel and fills him with His power. God gives Bezalel understanding, skill and ability for every kind of artistic work.

Should Bezalel, when commenting on artistic work he produces say ‘It’s not me who is the artist, it is God. He drew this picture. I just happenned to be there and prayed’. If it is resonable for Bezalel to claim to have been the artist, acknowledging that the ability he has is God-given – can we not apply the same principle to the gifts of healing.

We are given the authority and power to heal by Jesus, but it is we who are instructed to do the healing. So to say ‘I am not the healer – only Jesus is the healer’ is as invalid as to say ‘I am not teh artist’.

Jesus instructs His followers to heal the sick. Not pray for, but heal. Anything less is disobedience to teh Matthew 28 instruction to teach diosciples to obey EVERYTHING Jesus commanded us to do’

I think I’d better get started on Ephesians 2.10 and find the good works created in advance for me to walk in. Anyone else?
